CH: Work is on at full swing at Nyon’s rose garden

After a winter with very little snow but plenty of rain, the Concours International de la Rose Nouvelle de Nyon has some updates about their rose garden.

At the beginning of March, the team of gardeners from the city of Nyon’s environment department took on the task of pruning the 5th edition roses. After 5 judgements in 2023, these varieties will be judged twice more by the permanent jury and finally by the international jury on June 15.

The roses for the 6th edition were planted by the same team on March 6. A total of 72 varieties submitted by 25 professional breeders from 10 countries (Belgium, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, USA) will be assessed seven times by the permanent jury, from May 2024 to June 2025 and June 2026 respectively for landscape, ground-cover and climbing roses.

To introduce the next generation of gardeners to the world of roses, the heads of the five vocational schools in French-speaking Switzerland have once again accepted the invitation to encourage participation in the jury of apprentices. For the third time, 15 young people will choose their favorite variety on June 12, while discovering the floribundity, fragrance and resistance of some of the varieties entrusted to them by the breeders. The prize will be presented on the day of the international jury by one of the young gardeners, accompanied by the godmother behind the idea of this new jury, Madame Gisèle Tschanz.
