When you are the Attorney General in a state known for corn, soybeans, and livestock, why wouldn’t you find it an unexpected and exciting opportunity to visit a world-class greenhouse operation located within your state? On Thursday, March 21, 2024, Plantpeddler hosted Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, for a greenhouse facility tour and discussion with the Plantpeddler team. AG Bird joins a lengthy list of elected officials and dignitaries serving in Des Moines and Washington DC, who have made the trek to Northeast Iowa. During the tour of both Plantpeddler production sites, discussion covered a variety of topics, including horticulture’s role in value-added agriculture, the opportunities to diversify and grow production within the state, and risk management for growers.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the industry, and topics important to the health of horticulture, both within the state and beyond. The venue provided Brenna with a view into the investment; from breeding through production to the consumers who drive our industry.

Background
Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird grew up on a farm near Dexter, Iowa. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Drake University and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 2001. After working in larger legal firms, Bird served as Counsel to Governor Terry Branstad, then became County Attorney for Guthrie County, Iowa in 2018. She ran against AG Tom Miller in the 2022 Iowa General election, narrowly defeating Miller, who had served ten four-year terms in the position.

Bird lives with her husband, Bob Bird, and their son on her family farm in southeastern Guthrie County.
