Plant-Based diets linked to lower risk of sleep apnea

Australian researchers have discovered that a plant-based diet, rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and nuts, can significantly reduce the risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a condition linked to several severe health issues including stroke and heart disease. This diet shift offers a more accessible and cost-effective approach compared to traditional treatments like oxygen devices and dental appliances.

The study, which analyzed data from over 14,000 participants, found that those adhering to a healthy plant-based diet were 19% less likely to suffer from OSA, highlighting the crucial role of diet quality in managing OSA risk. Unhealthy plant-based diets, however, increased the risk, emphasizing the importance of dietary choices in health outcomes.
