“We’re not just building greenhouses. We are developing entire greenhouses constructions. That combination is exactly what the market needs nowadays,” says Justin Lukoff, Head of Sales USA at Havecon. In a new video by Havecon, he shares trends in the US greenhouse industry that he’s seeing now.
Justin sees that more and more customers are looking to get into the local market, aiming at specific cities. But although they have a clear plan about where to produce, they don’t exactly know how to fulfill the market demand. “So where we see big cities, the East Coast, for example, you know, we’re looking at projects that want to be within proximity of these major hubs. So that really defines what local production is. Another group is growers who want to shift from outdoor to indoor food production. Then it’s our job as a company to look and see what makes sense in terms of climate, what’s ideal for that type of crop, and just seeing: what’s the best business case?”
In Justin’s view, it all comes down to knowledge. The US is newer to local production in high-tech greenhouses, as a lot of that comes from the Netherlands. “So how we can export that knowledge back to the States is something that I personally am focused on. The major issue is knowledge, and that’s something a company Havecon can also support really well. We have the teams suited to do that.”
Havecon distinguishes itself by their focus, Justin adds. ‘We have a focus. We focus on Europe and the US. Alongside our Atrium Agri consortium partners, we can do what’s called a high-tech turnkey project. So we see more and more customers come into the market with a lack of knowledge. Or they have outdoor experiences, and maybe they want to get indoors. So for us, we can look at: what is the ideal climate and market situation? We can help them with financial feasibility models. That combination makes us unique and attractive to potential customers,” he concludes.
