US: The history of the Knock Out Rose

February 4, 2023

0 0

In 1992, rose breeder, Will Radler, sent the then-unnamed Knock Out® Rose to The Conard-Pyle Co./Star® Roses and Plants for testing and trialing. It quickly became obvious that this new genetic was unlike any rose seen in the market. It was something special.

The deep pink-to-red bloom color, the vigorous growth sustained with minimal maintenance, the way it would bloom, and rebloom, and rebloom, even without regular pruning, fertilization, and pest control.

Flash forward to 2000 and the introduction of The Knock Out Rose to the market. Immediately, it received an All-America Rose Selection (AARS) award. From there, it effortlessly became the standard for modern roses and a way to welcome new gardeners to the joy of growing roses. Today, it is hard to find a landscaped neighborhood that doesn’t include these cheerful red blooms.

The Knock Out Family of Roses now includes 11 varieties and is set to expand in the years to come with new colors and the same enjoyable growing experience millions of gardeners count on each year.
