Earlier this month, on May 8 this year, Mother’s Day was celebrated in % of the retailers reported that bouquets performed many countries over the world, including the US. It is an important holiday for the floral industry and this year, it seems to have been a successful one again. The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA)conducted an industry pulse check to find out retail sentiment around the Mother’s Day 2022. The survey found that most retailers indicated the 2022 Mother’s Day was a success, exceeding their expectations.
Bouquet sales up and potted plant sales below expectation
When expressing the sentiment in percentages, 91% of the retailers reported that the bouquets performed extremely well. On the contrary, retailers reported potted plants did not perform well with 67% of retailers indicating the categories did not perform as well as expected.
64% expressed that traffic was up compared to last year, . Some noted that this year saw a late consumer, with Sunday (Mother’s Day) being the busiest day for sales.
While floral sales met or exceeded expectations during Mother’s Day 2022, retailers were challenged by in-store labor, the cost of product and availability of getting product. 75% of retailers agreed that the in-store labor was a challenge this year.
