Every year, hundreds of thousands of plants are grown and brought together with the soil, with the careful work of the staff, with the work carried out in the greenhouse belonging to the Bilecik Municipality Parks and Gardens Directorate. The municipality supplies 90 % of its plant needs from this greenhouse.
All these plants are produced with the steel rooting method in the Park and Gardens Directorate Greenhouse Area, where 90 % of the plant species used in the parks and gardens and landscape areas in the city are grown. Bilecik Municipality Parks and Gardens Directorate Agricultural Engineer Umut Olgun noted that they have started to work to produce more than 100,000 plants this year in a 1,000-square-meter greenhouse and added, “We plant and harvest flowers twice a year. We grow flower types such as begonias and pansies. We cut the plant parts we take from the mature adult plants in the appropriate size, immerse them in the rooting liquid and place them in the soil in small containers. Then, we bring the plants to grow in the open area, to the landscaping areas, our parks and gardens, and to the common areas of the public.
With this production we make, we make a great contribution to our spending budget. Thus, we reduce our directorate expenditures and contribute to the budget of our municipality. In addition, within the scope of our work, we also carry out breeding and growing activities of new plant species.”
