About 4.5 years ago, Dutch nursery Luiten Kwekerij moved into a new nursery in Pijnacker. At the time, it was already a substantial expansion, from 1.7 ha to 3 ha, but the company has already outgrown it. Recently, growing volumes of various retail orders and day-to-day trading lines increasingly caused a shortage of space, and the processing area, which currently measures 3,330 m2, was particularly cramped.
“This made us decide to look around,” says grower Jeroen Soeterbroek, “and fortunately, we were able to find a suitable plot in Pijnacker. It has a surface area of almost 120,000 m2, and we are currently building a 52,000 m2 nursery there with a 6,900 m2 processing area.”
With the expansion, Kwekerij Luiten hopes to work even more efficiently and create more space for both its Mediterranean imports and its Yucca production. The nursery will be equipped with a concrete ebb and flow floor. In addition, the processing area will have 2,725 integrated solar panels in the deck system. Furthermore, 9 loading and unloading docks will be made available to load and unload even larger volumes in a short period of time. In the yucca department, insect netting has also been installed to keep out various insects.
The plan is to start potting the first yuccas by the end of the year. The current nursery is for sale. For more information, please contact Vellekoop makelaardij – onteigenzaken.
