“New novelties and recent commercial introductions gained the most traction”

Every year, rose breeder United Selections kickstarts the year with their open days in Nakuru, Kenya. Also, this year, they opened their doors to growers from January 11-13 and are very pleased. “It was a great success. Growers turned up to make their selection round to identify resourceful varieties fitting their 2023 growing strategy and beyond. The new novelties and recent commercial introductions gained the most traction, says Edwin Kirwa, Marketing Assistant at United Selections. In this article, he highlights some of the varieties that caught the eye of most growers.

The team of United Selections.

Premium Class
According to Kirwa, Premium Class received a lot of interest during the open days, with most of the growers from different altitudes requesting to try it. “It is a red-colored novelty within the premium segment, has a relatively big bud size, a velvety red shade, and it has an amazing opening shape on the vase. Stay tuned for more updates on the premium class to follow soon.”

Nova Vita
“This beautiful premium white rose needs no introduction, but it is great to see how fascinating this rose was during the open days, and most of the visitors were amazed by the variety,” he says when talking about Nova Vita. This variety is already commercial with Bliss Flora already.

Rise & Shine
“Think of energy, light, and positive sentiment, then think of our novelty yellow-colored rose; Rise & Shine. Rise & Shine definitely is attractive, and growers wouldn’t help but be drawn in during the open day. Beautiful opening and intense yellow color.” The market introduction of this variety will be jointly done with Fontana, Decofresh, and United Selections over the course of the year. “Stay tuned for more details.”

Sunset Magic
“Talk of the beauty of garden spray roses; talk of sunset magic.” Sunset Magic is currently planted commercially by Sian Flowers, and it is already available in the market. “It’s a bi-colored garden spray rose; its character, value, and sentiment are unmatched.”

Smooth Blossoms
According to Kirwa, this soft pink spray rose deserves the spotlight. It has been recently added to United Selections’ Blossoms series. “It is a great addition, and being a Blossoms, it has, on average, six buds per stem.” Smooth Blossoms is grown at Sian Flowers.

Golden Blossoms
Another addition to the Blossoms series is Golden Blossom, a yellow-colored spray rose that is also grown by Sian Flowers. “It has amassed great appreciation from growers and the market. Get this beautiful spray rose from Sian flowers.”

IPM Essen
Eager to see the varieties and meet the team of United Selections? They will be exhibiting at the IPM Essen from January 24 to 27, 2023, in Essen, Germany (Hall 1 Stand 1C30).
