“Labor shortages drive growth in machinery market”

Dutch company Pack TTI officially moved into its new premises this week. With the move, the machine trader made significant progress, especially regarding warehouse space, which was also needed, explains Christian Oosterlaan. “Automation is an ever-growing trend in the sectors in which we operate. We want to respond to that with this move and expansion,” he says.

The company is active in the flower, horticultural, and agricultural sectors, where, under its Flowerhands, Hortihands, and Veghands divisions, it sells pruning, weighing, sorting, and harvesting machines. “We used to share a building with Weber Cooling, our sister company. However, we both noticed we were growing so much that we needed more space, especially in storage. We were then presented with the option of moving into this nice space. We couldn’t turn that down.”

The company became fully operational at the new site this week. “The offices are pretty much the same, but we have doubled the warehouse area. That’s always nice, and we can have more stock. Especially now in the season, we like having parts and machines at hand to respond quickly to customer requests. The new location is also closer to a major highway, making it easier to reach,” says Christian.

Growing market
According to Christian, with this expansion, Pack TTI aims to capitalize on the growing market. “In basically all sectors, finding personnel is becoming increasingly difficult. We supply worldwide, and even in, say, Asia, where there’s still a large workforce available, more and more companies face staff shortages. They then start looking for labor-saving solutions, which quickly lead to automation. Demand has, thus, boomed in recent years,” he explains.

Inflation and, thus, the decreased willingness to invest has not affected the trader much. “I think that’s mainly because we operate in an affordable segment. We’re not in the high-tech market; we work with relatively simple machines. That makes it interesting, budget-wise, for smaller growers to invest.”

“That’s if they want to begin automating. You don’t have to spend a lot of money straight off the bat. Plus, maintenance is so simple we can almost always solve it online with a handy employee on-site. With our move, we should be able to maintain our recent growth nicely,” Christian concludes.
