AAA Growers is currently growing roses on 70 ha at two farms, but by the end of the year, this acreage will be 97 ha as they are in the process of building another farm and expanding their Bellissima farm. At this farm, they will be producing summer flowers such as chrysanthemums, limoniums, gerberas, craspedias, and roses.

Expansion of low and high-altitude farm
The new farm, named Chestnut in Naromoru, will be built at 2200 meters above sea level, which is the same altitude as their Simba Farm in Nyahururu, therewith increasing their low altitude hectares from 40 to 55 ha. At Simba Farm, they grow roses under the brand name AAA Roses in three categories; Silver (4.5+cm) and Bronze (4.2+cm), and a wide range of spray roses. They also have a high altitude farm, which is located at an altitude of 2500 meters above sea level, where they grow their Bellissima branded roses under 30 ha. The location enables the growing of large head sizes and long stems up to 100 cm, and also these roses are divided into three categories; Platinum (6.0+ cm), Gold+ (5.5+cm), and Gold (5.2+cm). And also, on this farm, they will be expanding another 12 ha. By the end of the year, they are planning to be on 42 ha for this particular high-altitude farm.
Chrysanthemums/Gerberas /limoniums/Craspedias
At the news farm, they will grow more flowers besides roses. “We have already done some trials at Simba Farm (Forest Gate), and the quality was good, as well as the reactions from the market, especially on limoniums on our bouquet specialties,” explains Moses Ndegwa of AAA Growers. “Basically, we will start with the planting of the chrysanthemums followed by gerberas, limoniums, and craspedias, and our target by the year 2024 is to be at 5 ha of summer flowers.”
Reason for expansion
According to Ndegwa, the reason for the expansion is the demand. “Over the last years, we have seen an increase in demand for our products. Particularly the demand for our spray roses in the Middle East has increased sharply. And we see that the Bellisima product continues to rule the market with its wide variety and its quality, both on vase life and floral arrangement. In order to meet the demand that we currently experience, we decided to expand, and with the addition of summer flowers such as chrysanthemums, gerberas, limoniums, and craspedias, we want to offer our clients a wider assortment in one basket.”
