“It’s good to be here for a longer period”

The production of cuttings in Uganda is going well, but obviously not by itself. We spoke to Simon and Corina Hendriksen earlier this year about their plan to go there for a longer period of time. That time has now come; they traveled together with their three children at the end of October, and the family will stay on the northern shores of Lake Victoria for six months.

“It’s good to be here for a longer period, to be able to follow the breeding activities and, together with the staff here, take the nursery to an even higher level,” Simon says. “If you’re only there for a few days, you don’t see the whole process, which we can now we’re here for longer. There are plenty of areas for improvement, but a lot is going well too. We recently celebrated this with cake for the managers and a bottle of soft drink (a soda as they call it here) for the staff.”

“Of course, we are closely linked online to the colleagues at our company in the Netherlands, who thankfully also saw fit for us not to be there for six months. We are grateful to our colleagues here because even though Corina and I are working here, as usual, there is more on their plate.”

Six months is quite an undertaking: renting a house, sending kids to school, and arranging a lot of things in the first place. “As a family, we now live in a different culture with a lot of different customs. It is not always easy, but it is an enrichment for all of us. And not just for us, for the nursery too. We hope this will enable us to provide our customers with even better cuttings material.”
