Awareness farmers about a slew of CSS schemes for flower production; Er Aijaz Hussain attends function as Chief Guest, urges farmers to adopt new means of flower production, avail beneficial schemes of Dept; dozens of farmers opt for on-spot registration
To increase Jammu and Kashmir’s flower production, the Department of Floriculture today reached out to people at Khonmoh by conducting a mega awareness camp-cum- B2V mela in which DDC member from Khonmoh and young BJP leader Er Aijaz Hussain was the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, officials of the Floriculture department while making the farmers aware stated that the country has a huge domestic flower market and the current imports concerning cut flower are 14 per cpercentndia. They said that J&K produces only 10 per cpercenthe flowers are cmed locally. “The 90 per cpercenters are brought from Flower Mandis of the country. These figures are a motivation for a Kashmiri farmer to venture into florithe culture field,” the Officials of Floriculture said.
They said that Floriculture has emerged as an alternative source of livelihood for small and marginal farmers. Floriculture has proven successful in boosting the income of farmers. This sector has attracted the attention of the farming community owing to better yields and ever-increasing demand. The Floriculture officials said that different Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) like MIDH, RKVY, and ATMA are being implemented for the promotion of the commercial Floriculture Sector. The department is organizing regular training within and outside J&K for farmers/growers in order to make them aware with modern trends in Floriculture Sector. “Awarenss programs/exposure visits are being organized by the department to attract more and more farmers,” the officials said.
