Digital freight forwarding platform Shypple and Value Maritime are partnering up for a cleaner future for the shipping industry.
There are 60,000 oil-driven vessels around the world right now. It is impossible to switch these vessels to cleaner fuels overnight. Value Maritime’s Filtree System is the answer to minimize the emissions of those ships now. It filters sulfur, fine dust, and CO₂ from the exhaust gasses of vessels. The CO₂ is stored on the vessels in CO₂ batteries. These batteries are discharged at ports afterwards to be transported to greenhouses. The cleaned up CO₂ is re-used to stimulate crop growth. When the tank is empty, it is returned to the ship, and the cycle starts again.
The time for sustainable innovation is now
“We need a solution now, not in the future. That is what we provide at Value Maritime, by retrofitting these vessels to be greener and much more sustainable. Our solution is available for installation immediately. It’s great to see a growing interest in ecological solutions as carriers increase their efforts to contribute to a better climate,” says Maarten Lodewijks, Director and co-founder of Value Maritime.
It’s a natural fit, given that Shypple is the first digital freight forwarder for fresh goods. Shippers of fresh produce have full visibility into their emissions, and can choose a solution that also accelerates the growth of their crops. Starting in September, all shippers can choose between compensating their emissions by planting trees or shipping completely carbon neutral by choosing biofuels or the Filtree option.
