Fragrant varieties are popular, and it was once again proven at the IPM Essen that took place last month. “It seems that growers in Europe have now caught sight of our fragrant garden roses,” says Rosa Eskelund of Roses Forever. During the show, this Danish breeder met several growers who are eager to produce her Plant ‘n Relax series, and all were very interested in the new variety Plant ‘n Relax “Our First Summer,” which was presented for the first time.

Rosa at the IPM Essen presenting ‘Our First Summer’ for the first time. Harley was in a meeting with one of their growers in Japan.

“Our First Summer”
The name of this new variety may sound familiar, and that’s because Roses Forever also has Plant ‘n Relax  “Our Last Summer” in their assortment. This variety is on the market for about a decade now and has become a best-seller in Scandinavia and is increasing in popularity worldwide. Rosa is, therefore, very proud of this new introduction and has high expectations of it.

“It has the same strong habits fragrance as Our Last Summer, but the color of the flowers are similar to our pot rose Princess of Infinity, which is one of the best sellers in the Infinity series. Already at the show, this variety received a lot of attention.”

An advantage of this new variety is that it is available for budding and as cuttings. “That it’s available as cuttings is a big advantage for growers worldwide as it is a lot cheaper to produce, and the finished product will have the same quality.”

Increasing demand for Plant ‘n Relax series
According to Rosa, the demand for the Plant ‘n Relax series is increasing. “At the IPM, several European producers already decided to start producing the Plant ‘n Relax series, including 3 French, 3 from Belgium, and 2 from Germany.” Also, in Asia, she sees the market growing, and the demand for their Plan ‘n Relax series is rising. “All in all, people love fragrant roses, but the varieties need to be both resistant and healthy, which the varieties in the Plant ‘n Relax series are.’
