“Excellent average prices in garden plants and houseplants in August”

Both in houseplants and garden plants, substantially fewer items were sold through Royal Flora Holland last month: -6.2% and -7.2%, respectively. Nevertheless, business was good, as average prices rose, at least to some extent, in line with inflation: +10.7% in houseplants and as much as +1.2% in garden plants compared to the same month last year.

In the houseplants, phalaenopsis scored particularly well (an average price of €4.54, or 42.7% higher than last year), in the garden plants, there were a lot of differences between but crops like lavender (perhaps because of invasive caterpillars in France?), echinacea, platycodon, dianthus and sempervivum in particular received good prices. Notable laggards, however, are the garden chrysanthemum, of which as many as 50% fewer pieces were on the market at practically the same prices.

This is according to FloraHolland figures, which also show that the same dynamic is not true for flowers. Now, August is not a flower month anyway, but with more or less the same supply compared to last year, the prices were a few percent lower.
