Dianthus Week, “the international meeting point for new varieties of carnations”

2 Min Read

Dianthus Week is an event with more than 5 years of existence where innovation, competitiveness, and new varieties of carnation for floriculture are shown. Its last edition, held from March 11 to 15, 2024, in the Savannah of Bogota, was no exception; through the “Open House,” participants had the opportunity to visit the farms and interact directly with the 9 organizing breeders.

“During these 5 days, local and international producers from countries such as Germany, Spain, Costa Rica, Korea, the United States, Japan, and the Netherlands had the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and generate commercial alliances that allow them to include in their production the latest varieties of carnations of the best quality. Some visitors to this edition were Albertson Supermarkets, Kaneko Seeds, Inochio Fuji, Brighten, Coexflor, Florequisa, and Divine, among others”, the organizers of the event report.

At the end of the week, they had the closing event where visitors to the open houses networked, chat and had one last chance to meet again with the organizers of the event.

It is important to highlight the importance of this event taking place in Colombia, as the main exporter of carnations worldwide, with diversified exports that include countries such as the United States, Japan, Holland, Poland, and Spain. In 2023, it exported more than 48 thousand tons of this species, which represented US$285 million.

The organization of this event was possible thanks to the collaboration and articulation between Asocolflores (Colombian Association of Flower Exporters) and the breeders Ball, BreierCross, Danziger, Dummen Orange, HilverdaFlorist Colombia, Propagar Plantas, Santamaria, SB Talee de Colombia and Selecta One. “This synergy has contributed significantly to establishing Colombia as a leader in the flower industry worldwide.”

The next edition of Dianthus Week will take place in week 11 of 2025.
