In the days leading up to Valentine’s Day, the Embassy of Colombia in the United States, together with Flowers of Colombia, brought Colombian flowers to Capitol Hill. Ambassador Daniel García-Peña delivered floral arrangements to the 535 Congressional offices as a symbol of the close and long-lasting partnership between Colombia and the U.S.

The Flowers Delivered to Congress Carried the Work of Thousands of Colombian Growers

Colombia remains the leading supplier of fresh-cut flowers to the U.S. In January and February 2025, approximately 720 million stems from Colombia supplied the U.S. market for Valentine’s Day.

This means that 80% of the flowers that mark the season of love and friendship across the country [U.S.] originated in Colombia. This figure shows a trade relationship that has been built on trust, reliability, and shared purpose, cultivated over more than two centuries of bilateral ties.

Outside of their beauty, Colombian flowers represent an industry that supports hundreds of thousands of families in the South American country and sustains jobs across the United States.

Each stem delivered to Congress carries with it the work of thousands of Colombian growers and the strength of a trade partnership that continues to generate shared value on both sides.

Commitment to Strengthening a Partnership That Delivers Benefits for Both Nations

Ambassador García-Peña, then, noted that the floral arrangements’ delivery gesture was both beautiful and meaningful.

Ambassador Daniel García-Peña added:

“Colombian flowers are part of everyday life in the United States, especially on Valentine’s Day. They are also a living expression of a relationship that connects our economies, supports families in both countries, and continues to grow through cooperation and mutual respect.”

Delivering flowers, from the Country of Beauty, to Congressional offices was, according to him, more than a seasonal tradition. Much more than that, it was a reminder of how closely linked the two countries are through trade, agriculture, and people-to-people ties. It was also a show of Colombia’s commitment to strengthening a partnership that delivers benefits for both nations.
