Valentine’s Day has never been about excess for me. It is about meaning. About form, feeling, and the quiet power of choosing one element and letting it speak fully. As a floral designer based in Martina Franca, I work from emotion first and structure second. When I design for Valentine’s Day, I think about love as presence. Something strong, visible, and deeply human. That is exactly why I return every year to one rose in particular.

A Rose That Needs No Explanation

For these Valentine designs, I chose Futura PORTA Nova Red Naomi roses. Not because they are famous, but because they are honest. Red Naomi has a depth that feels timeless. The color is intense without becoming loud. The bloom opens generously, but with discipline. In the hand, it feels confident and calm, which is everything I want a Valentine’s rose to be. Knowing these roses are grown with 95% less environmental footprint makes the choice even stronger. As florists, we need beauty we can stand behind, not only visually, but ethically. This is exactly what modern floral design asks of us.

Designing Love in Form

The heart shapes in these pieces are intentional, but not decorative. They are grounded and held together by structure, texture, and rhythm. I combined dense rose placement with light, expressive accents to create contrast. Soft movement against strong geometry. Romance paired with clarity. Love is never one thing, and I want my designs to show that. Each composition invites closeness. Not perfection. Not spectacle. Just a connection.

Why Valentine Still Matters

Valentine’s Day is sometimes dismissed as commercial, but in the studio, it feels different. It is one of the few moments in the year when people still choose flowers to say something they cannot put into words. When a design is made with intention, it becomes more than a gift. It becomes a message. And that, to me, will always matter.
