On May 23rd, the 26th Hortiflorexpo China (IPM Beijing) opened in style at the China International Exhibition Center (CIEC) in Beijing. Due to the pandemic, the IPM show was not held in Beijing for 5 years. People are very excited to join IPM Beijing again. “We saw more people than we expected,” many exhibitors said.

At the opening ceremony, China Flower Association Vice President Zhao Liangping, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Deputy Director of the Planting Industry Management Department Li Zengyu, Agricultural Counselor of the Netherlands Embassy Schmidt, China Flower Association Deputy Secretary-General Liu Xuemei among others joined the opening ceremony. As this is the first big and professional show after COVID-19, people have many wishes. People want to increase the cooperation between China and the world, to engage the development of the floral industry.

“There are three exhibition halls, W1 is the international hall, the Dutch group, the German group and some Italian companies are there. The Dutch Group is still the most attractive part of the show. This year, 43 companies from the Netherlands joined. From seeds to greenhouse construction and equipment, the whole supply chain is there. Dutch company Lumiforte and Chinese company Ruixue Global also held a joint ceremony for their new company “Lumiray”. W2 has more equipment suppliers for Gardens, and W3 has various local companies, including greenhouse designers, fertilizer, irrigation, etc.

We can see many visitors from the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, India, Iran, Japan, and Sri Lanka. “There are lots of visitors from India, and they want to buy flower seeds, and equipment from China,” exhibitors say.

Around 500 new plant varieties are shown. Sunflowers, Rhododendron, Phalaenopsis, Eustoma, and Chamomile are introduced to China. The Phalaenopsis company “Sion” also came to China for the first time. “China is really looking for new varieties, and growers are becoming more professional. They have more knowledge now and are always looking for answers. ” Meanwhile, China local breeders are also more engaged in breeding, some excellent varieties have been developed and introduced on the show.

The Dutch cluster focuses on greenhouse development to share some new trends and new technology; Online shops also discuss the influence of social media and consumer preferences. E-commerce and live broadcasting are the most important applications of digital technology, which has influenced the flower industry a lot. It helps to break through the geographical limitation, expand the market scale, and also achieve more accurate sales. “Due to market competition, more and more service will be provided,” some show visitors argue.
